This topic describes how the MassHealth program defines unearned income in the computation of countable income.
Gross Unearned Income:
· The total amount of income that does not directly result from a family member's own labor;
· Unearned income includes, but is not limited to, social security benefits, railroad retirement benefits, pensions, annuities, federal veterans' benefits, and interest and dividend income.
Rental Income:
· The total amount of gross income less any deduction listed or allowable on the member or applicant's U.S. Tax Return.
Do Not Include the following excluded income:
· Cash benefit income received by recipients of SSI, TAFDC or EAEDC;
· The portion of federal veterans' benefits identified as aid and attendance benefits, unreimbursed medical expenses, housebound benefits, or enhanced benefits;
· Income-in-kind;
· Roomer and boarder income derived from persons residing in the applicant's or member's principal place of residence;
