You may be eligible for MassHealth Buy-In if you are under the age of 65, have health insurance for which you pay a premium, and:
· You have not worked in more than one year; or, if you have worked, you have not earned enough to collect unemployment, and
· You are not eligible to collect unemployment benefits.
· The gross countable monthly income (after any excluded income but before taxes and deductions are subtracted) for every person in the MassHealth family group. Your family’s monthly income before taxes and deductions can be no more than 133% of the federal poverty level. See MassHealth Income Limits.
Note: The following people are not eligible for MassHealth Buy-In:
· A college student who can get health insurance from his or her college or university, and
· A person whose spouse works more than 100 hours a month.
Under MassHealth Buy-In, the Division of Medical Assistance (DMA) pays part of or all of the covered individual’s private health insurance premium. The amount of the payment depends on the Division's determination of cost-effectiveness.
The Division does not pay for any other benefit for Buy-In members. MassHealth Buy-In members are responsible for co-payments and deductibles and for payments for any services not covered by the member's insurance.
