The stated purpose of the Louisiana Family Independence Temporary Assistance Program (FITAP) is to aid and motivate recipients to move toward independence, as well as improve the health and education of children.
Specific requirements to assist in improving the health and education of children are:
· Educational Mandate: School attendance for school-age children has been established in order to improve education. Children of cash recipients must not have more than 15 absences from school in any 6-month period.
· Immunization Requirements: Each cash recipient under 18 years of age (or his/her parent or guardian) must provide sufficient evidence of immunity or immunization against vaccine-preventable diseases. Failure to comply with these provisions within a reasonable period of time will result in the suspension of benefits for the non-immunized child until compliance is demonstrated.
