FAIM - Excluded Earned Income

The following types of earned income are not counted to determine Families Achieving Independence in Montana (FAIM) eligibility and/or grant:

·      Earned Income Credit (EIC): The EITC may be received with regular wages or with an annual federal tax refund.

·      Minor child's income: The earned income of a minor child who is attending elementary or high school, regardless of age, is totally excluded.

·      VISTA income.

·      College work study program: Regardless of source, work study income is considered Financial Aid for post-secondary school attendance purposes.

·      Severance pay: This represents a non-recurring compensation outside of regular earnings, and is treated as a lump sum payment.

·      Sheltered workshop/Rehabilitation Center income: The earnings of individuals with disabilities working in sheltered workshops or rehabilitation centers performing services and/or work for therapeutic or rehabilitative purpose are totally excluded.
