Expanded Categorical Eligibility (Delaware) - SNAP (Food Stamps)

Image of the Delaware State flag. Adopted in 1913, the Delaware state flag has a background of colonial blue surrounding a diamond of buff color in which the coat of arms of the state is placed. Inside the diamond, the coat of arms recognizes the importance of commerce (the ship) and agriculture (wheat, corn, the ox and the farmer) to the state. Tribute is also paid to the Revolutionary War Soldiers. There is also a banner with the words 'Liberty and Independence'. The diamond is a reference to an early state nickname, the Diamond State, so given because of Delaware's small size and great value, evidenced in its geographical position on the Atlantic Ocean and its leadership contributions. Below the diamond are the words 'December 7, 1787,' indicating the day on which Delaware was the first state to ratify the United States constitution. According to members of the original commission established to design the flag, the shades of buff and colonial blue represent those of the uniform of General George Washington.Delaware has expanded the definition of Categorical Eligibility in its Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, formerly Food Stamp Program) by including participation in the programs or conditions listed below. If the SNAP (Food Stamp) household meets one of the definitions listed below, then the Household is considered Categorically Eligible for SNAP benefits unless a household member is disqualified.

·        All household members receive or are authorized to receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits

·        All household members receive or are authorized to receive TANF benefits

·        All household members receive or are authorized to receive SSI and/or TANF/GA/RCA benefits

·        Households whose gross income is at or below 200 percent of the Federal poverty level are categorically eligible unless specifically excluded. Households are specifically excluded if any member of that household is disqualified for an intentional Program violation or if the entire household is institutionalized.

NOTE: Programs and conditions making a household categorically eligible for SNAP (Food Stamps) in your State may be in effect for short periods and/or change at times other than at the Federal fiscal year boundaries. You can get the latest information from your local SNAP agency or from the SNAP (Food Stamp) State Information Hotline for your state. If you find something that should be updated on the list above, please notify us by email at WorkWORLD@vcu.edu so that we may include it in the next update.
