How much parental resources will be deemed depends on which parent(s) an unmarried child under age 18 lives with in the household. SSA considers that the resources of the child include the value of the countable resources of the parent(s) or spouse of a parent that exceed the applicable resource limit.
· If one parent lives in the household, the amount of parental resources above the resource limit of an individual ($2000 since 1997) are deemed to the child and are then included in the child’s resources.
· If two parents (or one parent and the spouse of that parent) live in the household, the amount of parental resources above the resource limit of a couple ($3000 since 1997) are deemed to the child and then included in the child’s resources.
The value of parental resources is subject to deeming whether or not those resources are available to the child.
If you do not know how much parental resources are being deemed, contact your SSA Claims Representative.
NOTE: This version of WorkWORLD does not ask enough questions about parental resources to calculate the amount that would be deemed. Whether or not a future version will do so depends on user demand. If you want WorkWORLD to calculate parental deeming, visit www.workworld.org and let us know.
